Meet Jose A. Lopez

Jose A. Lopez is a first-generation American, community leader and small business owner who grew up and put down roots in Delaware. A third-generation restaurateur, Jose comes from a family that arrived in Delaware in 1992 and opened its first restaurant on Concord Pike. He grew up in the family business and learned early what it takes to build something that lasts.

Jose graduated from McKean High School and became the first person in his family to earn a college degree. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance, with a minor in international business, from Thomas Jefferson University and an MBA in finance from the University of Delaware.

Today, Jose owns and operates La Tolteca Mexican Kitchen and Bar. He serves as chairman of the Latin American Community Center, treasurer of the Delaware Restaurant Association and a member of the Delaware Hispanic Commission’s Economic Development Subcommittee. He was also appointed to the Small Restaurant Regulatory Reform Task Force and confirmed to serve on Delaware’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance Appeal Board.

Jose has seen how rising costs, government red tape and decisions made without enough public input affect people across Delaware. He is running for State Senate to bring his experience to Dover and make sure the people closest to these challenges have a real say in how they are addressed.
